MY THOUGHTS ON OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

My question is this: If the Virgin Mother of God appeared to an Aztec peasant, Juan Diego, AKA Cuauhtlatoatzin, in 1531 to assure the Aztecs that She was Their Mestizo Mother and that she intended to bless them and protect them; then why were her Spanish followers allowed to totally destroy both the Aztec and Inca civilizations ? Why did their "Mother" allow her other children to victimize her new children; raping and pillaging and enslaving the native Indians and forcing Christianity on the survivors at swordpoint instead of allowing them to convert voluntarily?

And how has she since blessed them or indeed, any of the other Spanish-based Catholic nations of the New World? With years of enslavement to the Spanish, followed by 400 years of bad leadership, corruption, poverty and squalor ? Let's be honest here. The Spanish Catholic nations of the New World are the least productive and most backward of all of the nations inhabiting the New World. Seems to me like Lady Liberty blessed USA a lot more than the Lady of Guadalupe ever blessed the Spanish-Indian Catholic nations !!!!!

BIBLE ATTROCITIES AS BAD AS THOSE FOUND IN THE KORAN

Note: In the Bible, words having to do with killing significantly outnumber words having to do with love.
GE 3:1-7, 22-24 God allows Adam and Eve to be deceived by the Serpent (the craftiest of all of God's wild creatures). They eat of the "Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil," thereby incurring death for themselves and all of mankind for ever after. God prevents them from regaining eternal life, by placing a guard around the "Tree of Eternal Life." (Note: God could have done the same for the "Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil" in the first place and would thereby have prevented the Fall of man, the necessity for Salvation, the Crucifixion of Jesus, etc.)
GE 4:2-8 God's arbitrary preference of Abel's offering to that of Cain's provokes Cain to commit the first biblically recorded murder and kill his brother Abel.
GE 34:13-29 The Israelites kill Hamor, his son, and all the men of their village, taking as plunder their wealth, cattle, wives and children.
GE 6:11-17, 7:11-24 God is unhappy with the wickedness of man and decides to do something about it. He kills every living thing on the face of the earth other than Noah's family and thereby makes himself the greatest mass murderer in history.
GE 19:26 God personally sees to it that Lot's wife is turned to a pillar of salt (for having looked behind her while fleeing the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah).
GE 38:9 "... whenever he lay with his brother's wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother. What he did was wicked ..., so the Lord put him to death."
EX 2:12 Moses murders an Egyptian.
EX 7:1, 14, 9:14-16, 10:1-2, 11:7 The purpose of the devastation that God brings to the Egyptians is as follows:
to show that he is Lord;
to show that there is none like him in all the earth;
to show his great power;
to cause his name to be declared throughout the earth;
to give the Israelites something to talk about with their children;
to show that he makes a distinction between Israel and Egypt.
EX 9:22-25 A plague of hail from the Lord strikes down everything in the fields of Egypt both man and beast except in Goshen where the Israelites reside.
EX 12:29 The Lord kills all the first-born in the land of Egypt.
EX 17:13 With the Lord's approval, Joshua mows down Amalek and his people.
EX 21:20-21 With the Lord's approval, a slave may be beaten to death with no punishment for the perpetrator as long as the slave doesn't die too quickly.

IN RESPONSE TO AN ARTICLE FROM THE GUARDIAN:

Why creationism matters – and irks so many people

I am not an atheist. Perhaps I am a Deist like Thomas Jefferson and others of the Founding Fathers of USA and great thinkers like Thomas Paine who totally debunked Judaism and Christianity over 200 years ago in his 18th century work : "The Age of Reason".

Paine believed that institutional religion was outright evil and malevolent and was responsible for most of the terrible things that had happened throughout history, and that it was totally destructive of all scientific progress. Likewise, 21st century author and lecturer, Sam Harris states the same in his modern work " The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason"

One wonders how institutional religion has survived 200 years beyond Paine's very convincing and corroborative evidence. Are superstitious people simply plugging their ears and refusing to acknowledge the very glaring and obvious flaws in their religions or are they just reticent to toss a battered and worn out garment into the trash simply because it was something that an ancestor wore and somehow keeps them united with those who have gone before them?

If you interview Jews, Muslims and Christians today, and even their clergy, most barely believe in God at all and most certainly don't adhere to the moral teachings of their religions. I mean, if they did, then we certainly wouldn't have the current 50-60% birthrate to unwed mothers that we are experiencing and the outrageous divorce rate, not to mention the rate of infidelity and social diseases like HIV-AIDS rampant in most of the world.

So one wonders: Why do people continue to cling to something that they really don't even believe in? What's the point in clinging to the Torah if one doesn't even believe in God? And what's the point of receiving communion or the "body and blood of Christ" if you don't even believe that there was such an historical person?

Is it simply that the thought that we are in "free fall" and at the mercy of a very random and uncontrollable Universe  and that there is no  Santa Clause-like Deity out there to catch us, just too frightening?  Or does belief in a Deity give us a false sense of control of our destinies because we can bribe Him and manipulate Him through prayers and offerings to be certain that WE prosper and that WE win wars and that WE survive to the detriment of our enemies? If that is the case, then religious belief can actually have some very selfish motivations at it's roots.

SEVEN REASONS WHY A SCIENTIST BELIEVES IN GOD

A friend sent me the following essay by a scientist explaining why he believes in God. His reasons are not emotional or superstitious, in fact, they are quite compelling. The question is this: Are they compelling enough? Are they proof of anything? I leave that for your own conclusions, but I will post mine following the essay.

Seven Reasons Why a Scientist Believes in God
                                                                             By
A. CRESSY MORRISON,
Former President of the New York Academy of Science
WE ARE STILL IN THE DAWN of the scientific age, and every increase of light reveals more brightly the handiwork of an intelligent Creator. We have made stupendous discoveries; with a spirit of scientific humility and of faith grounded in knowledge we are approaching ever nearer to an awareness of God.
For myself, I count seven reasons for my faith:
First: By unwavering mathematical law we can prove that our universe was designed and executed by a great engineering intelligence.
Suppose you put ten pennies, marked from one to ten, into your pocket and give them a good shuffle. Now, try to take them out in sequence from one to ten, putting back the coin each time and shaking them all again.
Mathematically, we know that your chance of first drawing number one is one in ten; of drawing one and two in succession, one in 100; of drawing one, two and three in succession, one in 1000, and so on; your chance of drawing them all, from number one to number ten in succession, would reach the unbelievable figure of one in ten billion.
By the same reasoning, so many exacting conditions are necessary for life on the earth that they could not possibly exist in proper relationship by chance. The earth rotates on its axis 1,000 miles an hour at the equator;
if it turned at 100 miles an hour, our days and nights would be ten times as long as now, and the hot sun would likely burn up our vegetation each long day while in the long night any surviving sprout might well freeze.
Again the sun, source of our life, has a surface temperature of 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit, and our earth is just far enough away so that this "eternal life" warms us just enough and not too much! If the sun gave off only one half its present radiation, we would freeze, and if it gave as much more, we would roast.
The slant of the earth, tilted at an angle of 23 degrees, gives us our seasons; if the earth had not been so tilted, vapors from the ocean would move north and south, piling up for us continents of ice. If our moon were, say, only 50,000 miles away instead of its actual distance, our tides might be so enormous that twice a day all continents would be submerged; even the mountains could soon be eroded away. If the crust of the earth had only been ten feet thicker, there would be no oxygen, without which animal life must die. Had the ocean been a few feet deeper, carbon dioxide and oxygen would have been absorbed and no vegetable life could exist.
It is apparent from these and a host of other examples that there is not one chance in billions that life on our planet is an accident.
Second: The resourcefulness of life to accomplish its purpose is a manifestation of an all-pervading Intelligence.
What life itself is, no man has fathomed. It has neither weight nor dimensions, but, it does have force; a growing root will crack a rock. Life has conquered water, land and air, mastering the elements, compelling them to dissolve and reform their combinations.
Life, the sculptor, shapes all living things; an artist, it designs every leaf of every tree, and colors every flower. Life is a musician and has taught each bird to sing its love song, the insects to call one another in the music of their multitudinous sounds. Life is a sublime chemist, giving taste to fruits and spices, and perfume to the rose, changing water and carbonic acid into sugar and wood, and, in so doing, releasing oxygen that animals may have the breath of life.
Behold an almost invisible drop of protoplasm, transparent, jellylike, capable of motion, drawing energy from the sun. This single cell, this transparent mist-like droplet, holds within itself the germ of life, and has power to distribute this life to every living thing, great and small. The powers of this droplet are greater than our vegetation and animals and people, for all life came from it. Nature did not create life; fire-blistered rocks and a saltless sea could not meet the necessary requirements.
Who, then, has put it here?
Third: Animal wisdom speaks irresistibly of a good Creator who infused instinct into otherwise helpless little creatures.
The young salmon spends years at sea, then comes back to his own river, and travels up the very side of the river into which flows the tributary where he was born. What brings him back so precisely? If you transfer him to another tributary he will know at once that he is off his course and he will fight his way down and back to the main stream and then turn up against the current to finish his destiny accurately.
Even more difficult to solve is the mystery of eels. These amazing creatures migrate at maturity from ponds and rivers everywhere - those from Europe across thousands of miles of ocean - all bound for the same abysmal deeps near Bermuda. There they breed and die. The little ones, with no apparent means of knowing anything except that they are in a wilderness of water, nevertheless start back and find their way not only to the very shore from which their parents came but thence to the selfsame rivers, lakes or little ponds. No American eel has ever been caught in Europe, no European eel in American waters. Nature has even delayed the maturity of the European eel by a year or more to make up for its longer journey. Where does the directional impulse originate?
Fourth: Man has something more than animal instinct - the power of reason.
No other animal has ever left a record of its ability to count ten, or even to understand the meaning of ten. Where instinct is like a single note of a flute, beautiful but limited, the human brain contains all the notes of all the instruments in the orchestra. No need to belabor this fourth point; thanks to human reason we can contemplate the possibility that we are what we are only because we have received a spark of Universal Intelligence.
Fifth: Provision for all living is revealed in such phenomena as the wonders of genes.
So tiny are these genes that, if all of them responsible for all living people in the world could be put in one place, there would be less than a thimbleful. Yet these genes inhabit every living cell and are the keys to all human, animal and vegetable characteristics. A thimble is a small place to hold all the individual characteristics of almost three billion human beings. However, the facts are beyond question.
Here evolution really begins - at the cell, the entity which holds and carries the genes. That the ultra-microscopic gene can absolutely rule all life on earth is an example of profound cunning and provision that could emanate only from a Creative Intelligence; no other hypothesis will serve.
Sixth: By the economy of nature, we are forced to realize that only infinite wisdom could have foreseen and prepared with such astute husbandry.
Many years ago a species of cactus was planted in Australia as a protective fence. Having no insect enemies in Australia, the cactus soon began a prodigious growth; the alarming abundance persisted until the plants covered an area as long and wide as England, crowding inhabitants out of the towns and villages, and destroying their farms. Seeking a defense, entomologists scoured the world; finally they turned up an insect which lived exclusively on cactus, and would eat nothing else. It would breed freely, too; and it had no enemies in Australia. So animal soon conquered vegetable, and today the cactus pest has retreated - and with it all but a small protective residue of the insects, enough to hold the cactus in check forever.
Such checks and balances have been universally provided. Why have not fast-breeding insects dominated the earth? Because they have no lungs such as man possesses; they breathe through tubes. But when insects grow large, their tubes do not grow in ratio to the increasing size of the body. Hence there never has been an insect of great size; this limitation on growth has held them all in check. If this physical check had not been provided, man could not exist. Imagine meeting a hornet as big as a lion!
Seventh: The fact that man can conceive the idea of God is in itself a unique proof.
The conception of God rises from a divine faculty of man, unshared with the rest of our world - the faculty we call imagination. By its power, man and man alone can find the evidence of things unseen. The vista that power opens up is unbounded; indeed, as man's perfected imagination becomes a spiritual reality, he may discern in all the evidence of design and purpose the great truth that heaven is wherever and whatever; that God is everywhere and in everything that nowhere so close as in our hearts.
It is scientifically as well as imaginatively true, as the Psalmist said:
The heavens declare the Glory of God and the firmament showeth His handiwork.

My observations:

I do admire his reasoning and I do agree with much of what he says, but some of it doesn't entirely wash.

For example, when he speaks about the earth being just the right distance from the sun, etc. etc. to support life, that is true, but that isn't just true here on earth only. The "law of probability" would dictate that there are other earths in other solar systems with similar life-friendly conditions or that some forms of life don't require all the conditions that earth animals and plants require. I would find it very odd in deed if out of the billions of solar systems, this is the only one with conscious life. So one wonders why a deity with a plan would make life possible on only some planets while not on others.

He also does not explain all of the negative lifeforms and conditions that DO threaten life on earth and on other heavenly bodies like: viruses, cancers, deadly bacteria, volcano's, earthquakes, meteor strikes, solar flares, black holes, etc. not to mention ultraviolet rays from the sun. So the Universe is not entirely a life-supportive, friendly place. Why would a Deity have created all of those forces that are antithetical to life ???  Just the fact that the Spanish Conquistadors brought diseases to the New World that were deadly to humans there makes one question whether it was ever the intent of a benevolent deity for all of the world's families to be one and together. Are we, in fact, here on this planet in spite of all of those deterrents ???

He discusses the complexity of genetics and how wondrously all life is made. and it truly IS miraculous. The miracle of conception and birth; even the lesser miracles of plants sowing their own seeds and pollination are a wonderment. But then all of that complex engineering can be destroyed in a moment by a morsel of food swallowed incorrectly or an air bubble in a vein or artery or a tiny blood-clot.  Then that complex human machine can be turned into a paraplegic vegetable in an instant, or worse yet, into a dead and decomposing corpse.

So one wonders why "Intelligence" would make life and consciousness so fragile. Normally, wouldn't a designer try to make things that last and endure?  And if Man, is indeed, the "crown of creation", then why does a Sequoia tree live for a thousand years, a tortoise for 150 years and man for 75-85 years ?????  It just doesn't make sense.

And please don't try to tell me that it all "would have been perfect" had Adam and Eve not sinned, because it wasn't perfect before mankind entered the scene. The world was plagued with meteor strikes and floods and earthquakes and ice ages and the extinction of millions of animals long before man came into being.

As the King in "The King and I" said to Anna: "Is a puzzlement !!!!"

CULT MENTALITY

                                              CULT MENTALITY

Even though the major religions of the world are not considered cults; still they operate based upon cult dynamics. They are based around endless repetition of mantras, phrases, and prayers that are "mysterious" sounding and most certainly not the words of the practitioner who is mouthing them. They evoke a feeling of “magic” and wonderment.

Most major institutional religions are also based largely on emotionalism and group or "herd" mentality where participants are afraid to admit that they didn't see or hear or feel anything unusual for fear of being ostracized or shunned. Very few people get “saved” or healed while just sitting at home praying. It is only during vast tent meetings and revivals and pilgrimages or where emotions are running high, that these “miracles” occur. The same is true in Islam when adherents flagellate themselves en masse or dance themselves into a frenzy, as in the case of the Sufi whirling dervishes, or go on “the Haj” or pilgrimage to Mecca in the thousands.

They are almost never based upon individual thought, intellectual study or the individual's ability to tap into their own innate spiritual centers. No, they are almost always based around dependence on priests, mullahs, rabbis or some form of clergy, who are the only dispensers of truth and holiness, because only those individuals are perceived as having a direct “hotline” to God. Individuality and individual efforts at approaching God and spirituality are usually frowned upon and seen as acts of “rebelliousness” because it isn’t good for ‘business’.

BIBLICAL INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO SOLVE WORLD OVERPOPULATION

After having a debate today with someone regarding the effect of the current world population, we both agreed that the world need some drastic steps, very soon.
I can remember countless stories of the Old Testament of wars, disputes and general bloodletting that would make the South African Blood River look like a little picnic.  It also speaks of God’s direct intervention to reduce the load on Planet Earth.  Based on the very specific commands given, I reckon if we can round up a few True Christians to actually follow the Bible, we will make the planet a more habitable one.  So, based on God’s commands and his infallible guide to living, here is a list of people that we are authorised to … well KILL.
Kill Homosexuals
"If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives."  (Leviticus 20:13 NAB)
Kill Fortunetellers
A man or a woman who acts as a medium or fortuneteller shall be put to death by stoning; they have no one but themselves to blame for their death.  (Leviticus 20:27 NAB)
Death for Hitting Dad
Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death.  (Exodus 21:15 NAB)
Death for Cursing Parents
    1) If one curses his father or mother, his lamp will go out at the coming of darkness.  (Proverbs 20:20 NAB)
    2) All who curse their father or mother must be put to death.  They are guilty of a capital offense.  (Leviticus 20:9 NLT)
Death for Adultery
If a man commits adultery with another man's wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death.  (Leviticus 20:10 NLT)
Death for Fornication
A priest's daughter who loses her honor by committing fornication and thereby dishonors her father also, shall be burned to death.  (Leviticus 21:9 NAB)
Death to Followers of Other Religions
Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed.  (Exodus 22:19 NAB)
Kill Nonbelievers
They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.  (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)
Kill False Prophets
If a man still prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall say to him, "You shall not live, because you have spoken a lie in the name of the Lord."  When he prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall thrust him through.  (Zechariah 13:3 NAB)
Kill the Entire Town if One Person Worships Another God
Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods.  In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully.  If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock.  Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it.  Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God.  That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt.  Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction.  Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you.  He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors.  "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him."  (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)
Kill Women Who Are Not Virgins On Their Wedding Night
But if this charge is true (that she wasn't a virgin on her wedding night), and evidence of the girls virginity is not found, they shall bring the girl to the entrance of her fathers house and there her townsman shall stone her to death, because she committed a crime against Israel by her unchasteness in her father's house.  Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst.  (Deuteronomy  22:20-21 NAB)
Kill Followers of Other Religions.
1)If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him.  Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you.  You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery.  And all Israel, hearing of this, shall fear and never do such evil as this in your midst.  (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)
    2) Suppose a man or woman among you, in one of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, has done evil in the sight of the LORD your God and has violated the covenant by serving other gods or by worshiping the sun, the moon, or any of the forces of heaven, which I have strictly forbidden.  When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, then that man or woman must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death.  (Deuteronomy 17:2-5 NLT)
Death for Blasphemy
One day a man who had an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father got into a fight with one of the Israelite men.  During the fight, this son of an Israelite woman blasphemed the LORD's name.  So the man was brought to Moses for judgment.  His mother's name was Shelomith. She was the daughter of Dibri of the tribe of Dan.  They put the man in custody until the LORD's will in the matter should become clear.  Then the LORD said to Moses, "Take the blasphemer outside the camp, and tell all those who heard him to lay their hands on his head.  Then let the entire community stone him to death.  Say to the people of Israel: Those who blaspheme God will suffer the consequences of their guilt and be punished.  Anyone who blasphemes the LORD's name must be stoned to death by the whole community of Israel.  Any Israelite or foreigner among you who blasphemes the LORD's name will surely die.  (Leviticus 24:10-16 NLT)
Kill False Prophets
    1) Suppose there are prophets among you, or those who have dreams about the future, and they promise you signs or miracles,  and the predicted signs or miracles take place.  If the prophets then say, 'Come, let us worship the gods of foreign nations,' do not listen to them.  The LORD your God is testing you to see if you love him with all your heart and soul.  Serve only the LORD your God and fear him alone.  Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him.  The false prophets or dreamers who try to lead you astray must be put to death, for they encourage rebellion against the LORD your God, who brought you out of slavery in the land of Egypt.  Since they try to keep you from following the LORD your God, you must execute them to remove the evil from among you.  (Deuteronomy 13:1-5 NLT)
    2) But any prophet who claims to give a message from another god or who falsely claims to speak for me must die.'  You may wonder, 'How will we know whether the prophecy is from the LORD or not?'  If the prophet predicts something in the LORD's name and it does not happen, the LORD did not give the message.  That prophet has spoken on his own and need not be feared.  (Deuteronomy 18:20-22 NLT)
Infidels and Gays Should Die
So God let them go ahead and do whatever shameful things their hearts desired.  As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other's bodies.  Instead of believing what they knew was the truth about God, they deliberately chose to believe lies.  So they worshiped the things God made but not the Creator himself, who is to be praised forever.  Amen.  That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires.  Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other.  And the men, instead of having normal sexual relationships with women, burned with lust for each other.  Men did shameful things with other men and, as a result, suffered within themselves the penalty they so richly deserved.  When they refused to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their evil minds and let them do things that should never be done.  Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, fighting, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip.  They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful.  They are forever inventing new ways of sinning and are disobedient to their parents.  They refuse to understand, break their promises, and are heartless and unforgiving.  They are fully aware of God's death penalty for those who do these things, yet they go right ahead and do them anyway.  And, worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.  (Romans 1:24-32 NLT)
Kill Anyone who Approaches the Tabernacle
For the LORD had said to Moses, 'Exempt the tribe of Levi from the census; do not include them when you count the rest of the Israelites.  You must put the Levites in charge of the Tabernacle of the Covenant, along with its furnishings and equipment.  They must carry the Tabernacle and its equipment as you travel, and they must care for it and camp around it.  Whenever the Tabernacle is moved, the Levites will take it down and set it up again.  Anyone else who goes too near the Tabernacle will be executed.'  (Numbers 1:48-51 NLT)
Kill People for Working on the Sabbath
The LORD then gave these further instructions to Moses: 'Tell the people of Israel to keep my Sabbath day, for the Sabbath is a sign of the covenant between me and you forever.  It helps you to remember that I am the LORD, who makes you holy.  Yes, keep the Sabbath day, for it is holy.  Anyone who desecrates it must die; anyone who works on that day will be cut off from the community.  Work six days only, but the seventh day must be a day of total rest.  I repeat: Because the LORD considers it a holy day, anyone who works on the Sabbath must be put to death.'  (Exodus 31:12-15 NLT)
Kill People Who Don't Listen to Priests
Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death.  Such evil must be purged from Israel.  (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)
Kill Witches
You should not let a sorceress live.  (Exodus 22:17 NAB)
Now I know some UnTrue Christians will have a many good reasons as they why these instructions are not valid – most notable would be the commandment stating “You shall not murder”.  However, Martin Luther himself noted that God delegated this authority to the Government and that God and the Government is not limited by this commandment.  And since God and his Holy Spirit are the ultimate authors of the Bible, I would argue his instructions stand.
The stance on killing the aforementioned list is also supported by versus 1 Samuel 15:3, Joshua 4:13, Exodus 21:12, and 22:19, Leviticus 20:11 and Romans 3:10-18; where God OK'ed killing because of wars and punishments – but as long as it is not “murder”.  Admittedly Matthew 5:21-22 does throw a minor spanner in the works, but as noted there are plenty of contradictions in the Bible; so we are good to go!
